Made for the moment at the till

No more digging through your purse.

1
tap

From pocket to barcode.

Open the app, tap the card, and the barcode is up at full brightness before the cashier asks. Your favourites sit at the top, so the cards you use most are always first.

0
signal

Works in the basement Tesco.

Your cards live on your phone, so they show up with no signal, no Wi-Fi and in aeroplane mode. No spinning wheel while the queue waits behind you.

2
phones

One card, both of you.

Send your Clubcard to your partner in a message and they have their own copy to scan. No shared account, and nothing about it passes through us.

At the till

Barcodes that scan first time.

Sharp bars, full brightness, and a plain white background, so the scanner at the till reads it on the first go.

The barcode stays on white even in dark mode, because a tinted barcode often will not scan.

  • EAN-13
  • Code 128
  • QR
  • Aztec
  • Data Matrix

  • Codabar

The app

Scan it, show it, share it.

On your wrist

Leave the phone in your bag.

Favourite a card and it lands on your Wear OS watch, with a tile one swipe away.

The watch keeps its own copy of your favourites, so it works with your phone in another room. Wear OS only: there is no Apple Watch app.

Coming from Stocard

Point it at your screenshots. Done.

Took screenshots of your cards before Stocard shut down? Pick the album and CardJar reads every barcode in it and names each card, all on your phone with nothing uploaded.

If a card uses a code that changes every time, CardJar tells you straight away.

The CardJar import screen: five barcodes read out of seven pictures on the phone, with Tesco Clubcard, Nectar and Co-op Membership named and ticked, one left needing a name, and a warning that Starbucks Rewards makes a fresh code each time

New phone

Your cards come with you.

Set up a new phone from your old one and your cards arrive with your other apps. Nothing to sign in to, nothing to remember.

Want a spare copy? Export saves every card into one file, locked with a passphrase you choose. Only that passphrase opens it. Not Google, and not us.

Questions

How do I get my loyalty cards onto my phone?

Scan the barcode on the back of each card, or type the number in if it has worn off. Many cards are recognised straight away, name and colour included. If not, pick the shop from the list. Either way the card stays on your phone: no account, nothing sent anywhere.

Is it really free, and what is the catch?

It is free, and there is no catch. We never see your cards, so there is nothing to sell. No ads, no tracking, and nothing in the app that reports back to anyone.

Does the app send anything anywhere?

No. CardJar itself makes no network requests at all: the list of shops, every logo and the barcode reader are all built into the app, so there is nothing for it to fetch and nobody for it to tell. The one thing that leaves your phone is the phone's own backup: Android copies your cards into your Google account and an iPhone into iCloud, the way they do for any app, and we never see either copy. The privacy policy lists every byte that can leave the phone.

Why are the shop logos built in?

Because downloading one would give you away. Asking a server for a shop's logo tells it you hold that shop's card, and a wallet's worth of requests rebuilds your whole list of cards. So every logo and the whole list of shops come with the app, and a new list arrives with an app update.

Can anyone see a card I share?

Anyone who has the link, and no server on the way. The card travels in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server, so even when the link is opened on the web, our page cannot see the number. Treat the link like the card itself: whoever has it can add the card. They get their own copy, and nothing links the two afterwards.

What happens if you disappear?

Nothing. Your cards are on your phone and there is no server to switch off, so the app keeps working as it does today. You can also export everything to a file whenever you like.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes, completely. Your cards and the list of shops are on your phone, so CardJar works the same in aeroplane mode.

Which barcode types does it handle?

EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar, QR, Aztec and Data Matrix. PDF417 cards can be saved but not shown yet, and the app tells you so rather than showing a blank screen at the till.

What about cards with a code that changes every time?

No wallet app can show those, this one included, because the code keeps changing. CardJar tells you when you add the card, not at the front of the queue.

Is there an iPhone version?

Yes, for iPhone and iPad, on the App Store. Same cards, same list of shops, same nothing sent anywhere. There is no Apple Watch app.

Can I lock it?

Yes. Turn on the lock and the app asks for your fingerprint, face or PIN every time it opens. If the phone has none of those set up, it lets you in rather than locking you out of your own cards.

Can I read this in my own language?

Yes: Deutsch, Polski, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands and Українська.

Put your cards in the jar.
